Gautam Gambhir Slams RCB's Victory Celebration Event And Roadshow Culture
RCB created a historic moment by winning the IPL 2025 title, but amidst this happiness, a painful tragedy occurred in Bengaluru. There was a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, 11 people died and more than 50 people were injured. This accident turned RCB’s celebration into a sad memory.
RCB won its first IPL title after a long wait of 18 years. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah honored the team at Vidhan Soudha. After this, an open bus parade was planned in the city. But when about 2.5 lakh fans gathered outside the stadium, the situation went out of control.
Security and planning were weak, which resulted in chaos in the crowd. Many people got crushed in the stampede, including some young fans.
India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir gave his strong opinion on this incident. He raised questions on the need for road shows and such large public celebrations.
He said,”Obviously that is a very important question, and I need to answer that. I was never a believer that we needed to have road shows. I had the same statement to make even after winning (the T20 World Cup) in 2007 that we should not have road shows,” Gambhir told mediapersons.
Gambhir said, “I think lives of people are far more important, and I will continue to say that. In future, we can be a little bit aware of not holding this kind of road shows. We can probably have it in a closed door or something like in a stadium”.
Gambhir also raised questions on the planning and responsibility of RCB, KSCA and the event management company. Now a case of criminal negligence can also be filed against all of them.
“It is very tragic what happened yesterday, and my heart goes out to the families and people who lost their loved ones. I hope in the future nothing like this happens because I think we all are responsible citizens,” the former India opener said.
“I can’t say whether the fan base has increased or all that kind of stuff. All I can say is that we need to be responsible. We need to be responsible in every aspect of whether being a franchise or everything else because every life matters.”
“If you were not ready to hold a road show, you shouldn’t have done that. (It is) as simple as it can get,” he said.
People are angry after this tragedy. On social media, people are criticizing Virat Kohli and RCB management as well.
People are demanding that safety should be the first priority in public events. Cricket is like a religion in India, and the planning for such massive events should be flawless.
