Gianluigi Buffon handed one-match suspension over blasphemous remarks
Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was penalized 5,000 euros (USD 6,000) by the Italian Football Federation for using a “blasphemous expression” during the Serie A-game.
An examination in the matter was opened by the Italian FA after the match, with Buffon likely to be handed with a one-match suspension. However, the 43-year-old got away for the offense, according to reports.
The Italian international star has played a record number of Serie A games (653), more than anyone else.
The Italian FA has been severe with its disciplinary activities against players or mentors for use of words that disrespect God or Religion.
Reports said that due to the absence of large crowds in stadiums, mics and cameras have picked up more altercations among players and mentors, and therefore the number of punishments has increased.
The incident took place during Juventus 4-0 win over Parma on December 19.
