Avani Prashanth, a golfer headed for the Asian Games, will captain the Indian team in the women’s Espirito Santo Trophy competition at the World Amateur Team Championship (WATC) in October.

Nishna Patel and Mannat Brar are the other two players chosen by the Indian Golf Union (IGU) for the famous amateur golf competition that will take place in Abu Dhabi from October 25 to 28.

Avani, who earlier this year won the Queen Sirikit Cup individual championship, has been in excellent form. She won the title at a professional competition on the Ladies European Tour’s Access Tour. She made history by becoming the first Indian to claim a victory on the LET Access Tour.

Nishna finished second at the APGC Juniors in Manila, the same competition that Avani had won Queen Sirikit earlier. Mannat has also been in good shape and has competed in Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour pro events.

“Avani, Nishna and Mannat have performed superbly this season and we have great hopes for them. All our players have good experience with the IGU having sent them out of India for numerous events. Avani is also headed to the Asian Games, so we are quite excited,” said Brijinder Singh, IGU President.

The men’s Eisenhower Trophy tournament will take place a week before the women’s event, and the IGU has announced the three-person squad that consists of Yuvraj Singh, Shaurya Bhattacharya, and Rohit.

India’s top amateur golfer, Yuvraj Singh. Shaurya has competed in the Asia-Pacific Amateurs and will do so one more this year in Melbourne. Due to IGU sending him to several competitions this season and last, he has a lot of experience.

Rohit has been performing well at home as well. The Eisenhower Trophy is being played for the first time by all three.
