Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) produced an excellent all-round performance to dominate defending champions Rangpur Riders (RAR) by 32 runs in the GSL 2025 Final at Providence.
On the back of dynamic half-centuries from Johnson Charles and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and some clinical bowling effort spearheaded by Dwaine Pretorius, the Amazon Warriors asserted victory in the Global Super League 2025 in a commanding manner.
Gurbaz and Charles Power GAW to 196/4
Following the decision to bat first in the high-stakes RAR vs GAW encounter, the Amazon Warriors were dealt an early blow with Evin Lewis falling cheaply. Nevertheless, Johnson Charles (67 off 48) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (66 off 38) knitted a dominant 121-run partnership that constituted the foundation of GAW’s total.
Charles retired out after a boundary-laden knock that contained 11 fours and 1 six, while Gurbaz’s forceful innings contained 6 fours and 4 sixes. Finisher Shepherd put the finishing touches with a brisk cameo 28 off only 9 balls* to lead the Warriors to a fighting total of 196/4 in 20 overs.
Rangpur Riders Undergo Collapse Under Pressure
Pursuing 197 in the GSL 2025 Final, Rangpur Riders were jolted early, losing three wickets in the powerplay. The tone was established with the run-out of Ibrahim Zadran, then Dwaine Pretorius ousting Soumya Sarkar, and Moeen Ali striking down Kyle Mayers.
Though Rangpur were in a position to be back in the match through a 73-run sixth-wicket partnership by Saif Hassan (35) and Iftikhar Ahmed (46 off 29), yet another crucial run-out of Saif marked a collapse from 102/3 to 126/8.
Pretorius and Tahir Make It Official
Dwaine Pretorius was the pick of the bowlers with the ball, taking 3 wickets, including the valuable scalp of Iftikhar. Experienced spinner Imran Tahir also contributed, sending out Nurul Hasan and Khaled Ahmed, while Gudakesh Motie claimed two crucial wickets.
Mahidul Islam Ankon added a late touch with 30 off 17 balls, but the mountain was too high. Rangpur Riders were finally bowled out for 164, giving Amazon Warriors a 32-run victory and the GSL 2025 title.
