Hangzhou Asian Games Organizers Prioritize Post-Games Use of Venues

In response to speculations regarding Hangzhou’s potential as a future host for the Olympic Games, an official from the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (HAGOC) stated on Sunday that their current priority is ensuring that Asian Games venues become accessible to the public.

The Executive Secretary General of HAGOC was quoted by Xinhua news agency as saying, “Various international sports organizations have given us high marks, believing that our current facilities meet the requirements for hosting large-scale international events, including the Olympics.”

Hangzhou has received acclaim for its excellent facilities and overall organization during the Asian Games, sparking discussions about its suitability as a candidate to host the Olympic Games.

However, the official emphasized, “Our primary consideration is how to make more venues accessible to the public. As for whether we will host the Olympics or not, we have not yet thought about it.” This statement came on the final day of the Asian Games.

Wei Jizhong, the Honorary Life Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), noted that the success of the Hangzhou Asian Games has provided an opportunity for the OCA to establish essential criteria for upcoming Asian Games. He praised the Hangzhou Asian Games, saying, “I would rate the Hangzhou Asian Games 99 out of 100 points. Why 99? There is always room for improvement.”

Vinod Kumar Tiwari, the Acting Director General of OCA, also expressed his satisfaction with the Hangzhou Games, stating, “Technically, we have had one of the best Asian Games ever. The standard of the Games has been very, very high. We are very happy with it.”

While the possibility of Hangzhou hosting future Olympic Games remains uncertain, the focus for now is on maximizing the use of Asian Games venues for the benefit of the public.
