Happy Birthday Sam Curran, the England all-rounder turns 23 today!!!

Samuel Matthew Curran popularly known as Sam Curran celebrates his 23rd birthday today, Happy birthday Sam Curran. The soft-spoken cricketer was born in Northampton on 3rd June 1998.

Cricket runs in his blood. Sam Curran is the third generation of cricketers in his family. He is the youngest of all among three Curran brothers. Eldest being Thomas (read Tom) Curran – 26 years and Benjamin (read Ben) Curran – 24 years.

The left-handed all-rounder debuted in 2018, has represented England in 42 international matches, amassing 939 runs and 62 wickets to his name. He was purchased by Chennai Super Kings for INR 5.5 crore in 2020 IPL auctions.

Career Debuts

Curran’s Test debut was versus Pakistan at Headingley, in June 2018 whereas his ODI debut came in the same year against Australia at Emirates Old Trafford in June. He debuted for T20I’s New Zealand at Hagley Oval in November 2019. IPL debut came against Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in March 2019.

Career Stats

In 21 Tests Curran has scored 741 runs and taken 44 wickets. In eight ODI’s, Curran has 132 runs and seven wickets under his belt. In the twenty-over format, he has played 13 matches, with 66 runs and 11 wickets to his name. In 30 IPL matches for two different franchises, Curran has contributed with 333 runs and 32 wickets.

It is his highest ODI score, a fighting unbeaten 95 in a losing cause, which recently came on England’s tour of India in March 2021, that made the world sit up and take notice of this fine all-rounder. Sam Curran equaled the world record for the highest ODI score by a number 8 batsman in this match. England’s stand-in skipper Jos Buttler for that match said he saw shades of MS Dhoni in Sam Curran’s 95.

On 19 July 2020, Curran reached 12th position in ICC Test Rankings for all rounders’, his highest to date. He is placed 19th in the latest rankings.

In IPL 2021, Curran scored 52 runs and dismissed nine batsmen before IPL 2021 suspension on May 4.
