Fictional films like Lagaan, Kai Po Che! and Iqbal was a success on the big screen. Whereas movies based on the lives of cricketers like MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev will always be remembered by every fan. There are many Indian cricketers who acted in films.
Here are some of the Indian cricketers who acted in films.
Kapil Dev
Kapil Dev was the World Cup winning captain in 1983. He was a legendary all rounder and was known as the ‘Haryana Hurricane’. The fast bowling all rounder played in 131 test matches and took 434 wickets and scored 5248 runs. He even played 225 ODI matches, in which he took 253 wickets and scored 3783 runs.
In movies like Dillagi… Yeh Dillagi, Iqbal, Chain Khuli ki Main Khuli, and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, among others, Kapil had cameo appearances. Ranveer Singh played the lead in the biopic about Kapil Dev that was named 83. In ‘83’ Kapil Dev had a cameo as a spectator.
Yuvraj Singh
India’s heroic player from the 2011 ODI World Cup and 2007 T20 World Cup will always be remembered for his all round performances. His comeback after battling cancer and playing international cricket is in itself a story made for the big screen.
He performed as Mehndi Shagna Di, a young performer, in a Punjabi movie. Yuvraj was only 11 years old when the movie was released in 1992. He has performed as an actor in movies as well as voiceover actors. He provided the voice for a character in the 2008 animated movie Jumbo.
Yograj Singh
Acting is common in the family, as Yuvraj’s father, Yograj Singh has also acted in Bollywood films. Yograj Singh is a former cricketer who bowled right-arm fast-medium and represented India in one Test and six One Day Internationals. Bollywood films like Teen Thay Bhai, Singh is Bling, and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag include Yograj as an actor.
Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar was considered as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. He received a lot of praise for his technique against fast-bowling. In the Marathi film Savli Premachi, he played the lead character. He even made a cameo appearance in the Hindi film Maalamaal (1988), which starred Naseeruddin Shah and Satish Shah in pivotal roles.
Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan is one of the most loved Indian cricketers. The left handed batter currently is the captain of Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. He made his debut in Bollywood with ‘Double XL’ movie. The movie was released in 2022.
