Despite the fact that a lot of people appreciate the absence of clocks in tennis. A tennis match may theoretically go on for a very long time or end quickly. A match that ends fast typically indicates that it was a one-sided contest. Here are the shortest matches in tennis.
Jack Harper vs J. Sandiford (18 minutes in 1946) (6-0,6-0)
In 1946, Jack Harper used just 18 minutes to win the best-of-three match. Along the way, he only lost one point to J. Sandiford, and there was never any competition. Harper, himself was a great player too as he advanced to the fourth round at Wimbledon and the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. But on that particular day, though, total dominance was present right away. Sandiford did not win a single game in the match. Throughout the entire match, there were a ton of quick points, and both players’ brisk play benefited. The record was set in 1946 and still stands after more than 70 years.
Margaret Court vs Darlene Hard (24 minutes in 1963) (6-1,6-1)
In the history of professional tennis, Margaret Court’s 6-1, 6-1 victory over Darlene Hard in 1963 was the shortest women’s match ever recorded. Losing to a player like Margaret Court, one of the greatest champions in women’s tennis history, is undoubtedly not the worst thing in the world. Although Hard won two games, the two sets were completed in just 24 minutes. On paper, there was a mismatch right away, and both players played at a quick enough tempo to finish everything up without delay.
Helen Will vs Joan Fry (24 minutes in 1927) (6-2,6-0)
In 1927, Helen Willis was at the height of her abilities. In that year, she won both Wimbledon and the US Open, and she also attained the top spot in the world for the first time. All in all, it was a poor time for anyone to take on her, and Joan Fry suffered one of the quickest defeats in tennis history as a result. Wills won in just 24 minutes, contributing to the US team’s final Wightman Cup triumph of 5-2. Fry typically struggled in these situations, but this one was especially horrible. In the first set, Fry did manage to win a few games, but the second set was over in about ten minutes.
Francisco Clavet vs Jiang Shan (25 minutes in 2001) (6-0,6-0)
Jiang Shan, the husband of Li Na, lost to Francisco Clavet in under 25 minutes when he was still a professional tennis player. The uncomplicated thrashing ended 6-0, 6-0. Although Clavet played some of his most dominant tennis of his career, the match was never close. Being defeated at home is never enjoyable, as Shan had hoped to make a small comeback at the Shanghai competition. Although being the underdog, none of his shots were successful, which resulted in the quick loss.
