Over the years, the ICC ODI World Cup has witnessed some outstanding performances. Some batting performances have been minor but quite significant. While the others have been significant as well as the highest. Here is a look at the highest batting score in ICC ODI World Cups.

Martin Guptill (237* vs West Indies)

The highest batting score in the ICC ODI World Cups belongs to Martin Guptill. Guptill scored 237* against the West Indies in the 2015 ODI World Cup. The right-handed opener from New Zealand in that innings scored 24 fours and 11 sixes. His strike rate was a whopping 145.39. New Zealand went on to the finals of the tournament where they lost to their co-host Australia.

Chris Gayle (215 vs Zimbabwe)

It is no surprise that the ‘Universe Boss’ features on this list. Chris Gayle has always been famous for hitting sixes and has numerous batting records to his name. He was the first person to score a double century in an ODI World Cup. He did it a month before Guptill scored his 237*. Gayle scored 215 against Zimbabwe, an innings which included 16 maximums and 10 fours. His strike rate for the knock was 146.25.

Gary Kirsten (188* vs U.A.E.)

The former World Cup winning coach with India features third on this list. Gary Kirsten scored 188* against U.A.E. at a strike rate of 118.23. Kirsten hit 4 sixes and 13 fours. He scored this knock in the 1996 ICC ODI World Cup.

Sourav Ganguly (183 vs Sri Lanka)

Sourav Ganguly features fourth on this list. In the 1999 ICC ODI World Cup, the former Indian captain scored 183 against Sri Lanka. The southpaw opener scored the knock at a strike rate of 115.82 hitting 7 sixes and 17 fours.

Vivian Richards (181 vs Sri Lanka)

Sri Lanka bears the brunt of a great knock once again, as Vivian Richards scored 181 runs against them in the 1987 ODI World Cup. Viv Richards was considered to be the greatest batsman of his era. His knock of 181 runs came at a strike rate of 144.8. This strike rate was considered to be next to impossible to achieve in those times. But such was the class and power of the legendary West-Indian batter. In his knock he scored 7 sixes and 16 fours.
