Alpine Skier Sahil Thakur Represents India: Hailing from Himachal Pradesh, Sahil Thakur is the lone Indian athlete competing in alpine skiing at the Winter Youth Olympic Games 2024 in Gangwon, South Korea. The 16-year-old skier follows in the footsteps of Aanchal Thakur and Saurabh, who represented India in the past editions.

2. India’s Winter Youth Olympic Games Participation: Sahil Thakur becomes the third Indian athlete to feature in the Winter Youth Olympics, continuing the nation’s presence in alpine skiing. Aanchal Thakur participated in the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics in Austria in 2012, while Saurabh represented India in the 2016 edition in Norway.
3. Gangwon 2024: First Winter Youth Olympics in Asia: Gangwon 2024 marks the first time the Winter Youth Olympic Games are hosted in Asia. The event, held in South Korea, features venues previously used in the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. The Games are expected to witness the participation of around 1,900 athletes from 80 countries across 15 disciplines.
4. Opening and Closing Ceremonies: The Winter Youth Olympic Games 2024 will officially commence with an opening ceremony held simultaneously in the Gangneung Oval and PyeongChang Dome on January 19. The closing ceremony is scheduled for February 1.
