How much umpires are paid in Pakistan Super League (PSL)?

Pakistan Super League (PSL) recently concluded its 8th edition where Lahore Qalandars won the final by 1 run. In this article, we will see how much an umpire earns per season in PSL.

Pakistan Super League is one of the most popular leagues in the world in which some of the best umpires come to officiate like Aleem Dar. In PSL the umpires or the officials are offered contracts before the start of the season.

Umpires are essential in the PSL for making sure that games are fairly conducted. Umpires are in charge of controlling play, keeping an eye on the field, the playing surface, and the equipments used to play the game. Being a premier T20 league, PSL have players from all around the globe, but often earnings of the umpires are overlooked. So how much do umpires earn in the PSL?

In PSL the umpires who have international experience earn relatively more than the domestic umpires. Umpires with contracts with ICC earn up to $20,000 per season while the domestic umpires with less experience earn maximum of $10,000 – $15,000.

These salaries are the base salaries of the umpires. The umpires also earn $3,000 from sponsorship money. Some of the highest earning umpires in PSL are Aleem Dar, Alex Wharf, Martin Saggers, Michael Gough, Richard Illingworth and Ruchira Palliyaguruge. These umpires earn a base salary of $20,000 per season and an additional $3,000 as sponsorship money. Aleem Dar is the only umpire from Pakistan to be on this list.

A match referee in PSL earns estimated base salary of $10,000. The role of match referee is very different from that of an umpire in the game of cricket. The role of referee is to make sure that during the match there is no breach of ICC Cricket Code of Conduct. If there is a breach then it is the match referee’s responsibility to handle the penalties.
