Farming Rare Samples in Helldivers 2 is not simple. They are spread across almost every planet, but actually finding them takes time and patience. The good news is that the higher your difficulty level, the better your chances of collecting them. Rare Samples only start appearing from difficulty level 4 and above, so if you are playing on lower levels, you won’t find any.

What Are Rare Samples?
Rare Samples are special resources that are needed for research and upgrades. You can recognize them by their white square symbol with a small cut at the bottom left. They usually appear as red rocks or yellow flowers in different mission areas. Most often, they are located around the edges of objectives, both main and side ones.
Best Mission to Farm Rare Samples
One of the fastest ways to farm Rare Samples is by joining a squad and taking on a Blitz: Search and Destroy (Terminid Mission) at Tier 5 or higher. These missions are short, lasting around 12 minutes, but they have plenty of Rare Samples around bug holes and automaton factories.
If you want to collect more, explore the Points of Interest (POIs) scattered across the map. POIs often hold valuable samples that many players miss when rushing through objectives.
Secret Farming Method
There’s a trick that many players don’t know. If you join a Retrieve Essential Personnel mission with a squad, you can collect a huge amount of Rare Samples. On difficulty level 7, you may find close to 30 samples in a single run, while level 5 usually gives around 17. This makes it one of the most efficient farming methods in the game.
Use the Right Gear
Before heading into missions, equip the SC-30 Trailblazer scout armor. This armor automatically sends radar scans every 2 seconds, showing enemies and sometimes highlighting hidden POIs. If your teammate uses it, the benefit applies to the whole squad. This greatly increases your chances of spotting Rare Samples that are otherwise easy to miss.

- Rare Samples spawn more often at higher difficulty levels.
- Don’t rush to extract. Explore the edges of mission areas carefully.
