ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Australia Announce Squad With Key Changes

Pat Cummins Returns for Champions Trophy 2025 – Pat Cummins is back for Australia’s ICC Champions Trophy campaign in Pakistan next month after missing the Test tour in Sri Lanka. Injured fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is also included in the squad announced on Monday.
Surprises in the Squad
Australian captain Pat Cummins decided to skip the Sri Lanka series starting later this month to be with his family for the birth of his second child. He is also said to be dealing with a knee injury.
Josh Hazlewood, recovering from calf and side strains that limited him to just two Tests against India during the summer, has been named in Australia’s preliminary 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy, a tournament they have won twice.
As they return, opener Jake Fraser-McGurk has been dropped from the squad due to his poor recent form. He had opened for Australia in their most recent one-day series against Pakistan.
“This is a balanced and experienced squad with the core having been involved in the previous one-day World Cup, the West Indies series, last year’s successful tour of the UK and the more recent Pakistan home series,” said chief selector George Bailey.
“It offers a variety of options for touring management depending on opposition and the conditions that may present in Pakistan.”
The eight-nation Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be played between February 19 and March 9 in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
