Over multiple years, the Cricket World Cup as organized by the ICC has drawn an excellent fan following. Moreover, the history of the Cricket World Cup has also witnessed drastic changes in some years. The one-day international (ODI) games played in 1983 were very different from those played today. With a red ball, it was mostly played during the day. There were no different variations of fielding limits, and each inning lasted 60 overs. The winning totals were substantially lower, and the top batters conducted themselves as though it were a shortened Test match. Be it any style of playing the ICC World Cup, fielders have equally contributed to each competition.

The list of players with maximum dismissals and catches in one match includes the below-mentioned names:

Most Dismissals in One Match:

  • Adam Gilchrist: With 6 dismissals in a match in 2003, Adam Gilchrist is said to hold the record for maximum dismissals in one match. The majority of a wicket-keeper batsman’s responsibilities were in keeping; whatever runs the gloveman scored were considered extras. All of that changed when Adam Gilchrist came along and completely transformed the job. He was not only a brilliant keeper against both pace and spin but also a dasher of a batsman who could crush the finest bowlers. Because of his efficiency, Australia regarded him as a true all-rounder.
  • Sarfraz Ahmed: Following the 2016 ICC World T20 in India, Sarfaraz was selected to lead Pakistan in T20 matches. After Azhar Ali resigned as Pakistan’s ODI captain on February 9, 2017, Sarfraz was chosen as the country’s T20 captain following the 2016 ICC World T20 in India. In June 2017, Pakistan won the Champions Trophy when he served as captain. Like Adam Gilchrist, he also holds the record of 6 dismissals in a match in 2015.

Most Catches in One Match:

  • Mohammed Kaif: He is a former Test and One-Day International cricket player from India. His performances at the Under-19 level, where he led the India national under-19 cricket team to victory in the Under-19 World Cup in 2000, earned him a spot on the national team. The player successfully managed to register 4 catches to his name in a World Cup match in 2003.
  • Soumya Sarkar: Soumya Sarkar participated in the 2015 Cricket World Cup on behalf of Bangladesh. According to reports, he successfully secured 4 catches in a World Cup match in 2015. Moreover, he shares the record for making the most catches in a single World Cup game with Mohammad Kaif and Umar Akmal.
