The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced its revenue model for the next 4-year cycle. During the 2024-27 cycle, the Board of Control for Cricket in India will be taking the biggest chunk of the revenue model. BCCI will be taking 38.5% of the revenue model. The bubble of there being a big three was burst open as the next biggest shareholders, England and Australia combined are taking just 13.14% of the share which is way less than half of what BCCI is earning. In this article, we will discuss how ICC comes with this revenue model and more details about the revenue model.
How does ICC reach this model?
ICC’s proposed financial model for the 2024-27 cycle says that they will be earning nearly $3.2 billion. The earnings come from the selling of media rights across five separate regions. This was the first instance when the sale of media rights happened across five regions. The biggest amount of revenue for ICC comes from the selling of media rights in the Indian market. Disney Hotstar reportedly paid $3 billion for the cycle. If the amounts are to be believed then ICC is earning nearly 93.75% just from the sale of media rights in India.

India will be earning $924 million during the 4-year cycle. Many boards were left unhappy with ICC’s proposed model and BCCI’s earnings. Pakistan Cricket Board was the first board to express their unhappiness with the model.
PCB head, Najam Sethi said that they will not approve the proposed model. Sethi said, “We are insisting that the ICC should tell us how these figures were arrived at, we are not happy with the situation as it stands. Come June, when the board is expected to approve the financial model, unless these details are provided to us, we are not going to approve it.” PCB is earning just 5.75% from the revenue model. BCCI’s annual earnings ($231 million) are more than any board will earn in the 4-year cycle. PCB will be $138.04 million in the 4-year cycle.
The associate nations will be earning 11.2% from the revenue model. Their earnings will come to 67.16.
