It seems that the trail of injuries has no end in sight for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Many of the key players were earlier excluded from the T20 World Cup for suffering major injuries. The all-rounder South African bowler Dwaine Pretorius, became the latest to join the list of injured cricketers who will not be a part of the upcoming T20 World Cup tournament in 2022.
While other cricket teams struggle to find replacements for their injured players, India has suffered the most from the drag of injuries. India had to lose out on the star bowlers of the team, including Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. Bumrah made a comeback in India’s playing XI during the second match of the T20 series against Australia in Nagpur and was ruled out from the next T20 series against South Africa after he complained of an intolerable back pain caused due to back stress fracture, while Ravindra Jadeja wasn’t a part of the T20 series because he earlier underwent a knee surgery after an adventure activity in the 2022 Asia Cup in UAE.
The unavailability of its top bowlers, like Naseem Shah and Shaheed Afridi, has also been a problem for the Pakistan cricket squad. After contracting pneumonia following the first Twenty20 international match against England, Naseem tested positive for Covid-19. According to the reports, Naseem Shah, who missed the T20 series, has now recovered from it, and is expected to make a comeback in the T20 World Cup tournament. While, in a Test match against Sri Lanka in July, the second-best bowler, Afridi, sustained a ligament injury to his right knee. Pakistan is currently struggling with the availability of these two top class bowlers ahead of the T20 World Cup.
The Sri Lankan cricket team was also not exempt from the trail of injuries. Lahiru Kumara and Dushmantha Chameera, who are currently a part of the Sri Lankan 15- member squad, are currently dealing with health issues. While Chameera is currently recovering from an ankle injury he sustained in a June match against Australia. Kamra, one of the most significant players in the team, hasn’t participated in any international cricket matches since March, 2022 due to a hamstring problem.
Jos Buttler suffered a calf injury while playing for Manchester Originals in the Hundred 2022 game, and the England cricket squad is highly sceptical about his ability to make a comeback. Buttler, who missed the seven-match series against Pakistan due to injury, will represent England in the forthcoming T20 World Cup in 2022.
