A good way for fans to prepare for this season of the World Cup is by knowing which players are likely to do great this season. Here are some of the cricketers that we should keep an eye on:
Josh Little (Ireland)
This year, Ireland seems to have a strong squad for the World Cup. Josh Little is a 22-year-old Irish cricketer who’s known for his bowling figures in the Men’s Hundred and will be playing in the World Cup this season.
Little debuted for the Ireland cricket team in September 2016 at only 16 years old. It was only this year that he broke a record and achieved the best bowling figures in the history of The Hundred. He also became the fourth person who got a 5-wicket haul in the history of the tournament.
With him being able to do that, it’s safe to say that this cricketer might have a lot in store for the upcoming World Cup. Little will be playing with his teammates George Dockrell, Paul Stirling, and Andrew Balbirnie.
Vriitya Aravind (UAE)
Vriitya Aravind is an Indian-born cricketer who’ll be playing for the UAE national cricket team as a wicket-keeper batsman. He was added to the UAE roster in 2019 for the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier as a replacement for Ghulam Shabber.
The 20-year-old had his ODI debut for the UAE team in December 2019 when they went against the United States. After that, he was then added to the Under 19 World Cup roster.
Aravind is quick to pull the shot which makes him one of the batsmen to look forward to this season. He also was able to get a 76-ball 115 in ODI when they faced Namibia. It seems like the young cricketer has a lot on his sleeve when it comes to batting and wicket-keeping, so he’s worth mentioning on this list.
Tim David (Australia)
Australia’s Tim David has been doing great in their recent matches and it’s to the point that he’s being touted by other big cricket names like Ricky Ponting as someone with a huge potential to be the star of the tournament.
David is already 26 years old and was able to make his international T20 debut in July 2019. He has also already played for different teams including Singapore. It was only this year when it was announced that he’ll be playing for the Australian national cricket team.
The now-Australian player is known for his phenomenal strike rate. He was able to somehow dominate the PSL for Multan Sultans. Mumbai Indians were also able to sign him up for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Hardik Pandya (India)
India’s Hardik Pandya is one of the most famous cricketers today in the international cricket scene. The 28-year-old is also the captain of Gujarat Titans, the current champions of the IPL. Pandya is an all-rounder but is one of the most feared batsmen on the field.
Before being Gujarat Titan’s captain, Pandya played for Mumbai Indians for 6 years. It was in 2015 when he made his IPL debut. This year, he was then purchased by the new IPL team, Gujarat Titans.
Pandya must be feeling very confident with his latest victories and that could mean his World Cup performance will not be short. In a recent interview, he voiced out that he wants to win the World Cup for India, so he’s going to give it his everything.
Liam Livingstone (England)
As early as now, England is also one of the favorites this season and one of the players to look out for from this team is the 29-year-old batting all-rounder, Liam Livingstone.
Livingstone has been playing for Lancashire and the England cricket team as a right-handed opening batsman and spin bowler. It was in 2015 when he made his T20 debut for Lancashire against Leicestershire.
The English cricketer is known for being able to hit the ball bigger and longer than anyone else on the cricket field. He’s also now one of the most sought players. He’s made the headlines already when he hit 350 off 138 balls for a 50-over match.
