IIHF Women’s World Championship 2025 Czechia: Participating Teams, Fixtures, Relegation Pathway

The IIHF Women’s World Championship 2025 will get underway at České Budějovice, Czechia from 9–20 April 2025. 

The world’s top 10 women’s teams have been split into two groups of five- Group A and Group B.

Group A: Canada, hosts Czechia, Finland, Switzerland, and the USA. 

Group B: Germany, Hungary, Japan, Norway, and Sweden.

All five teams in Group A, and the top three teams in Group B, qualify for the quarter-finals.

IIHF Women’s World Championship 2025: Format

The quarter-finals will be staged according to seeding, with the first-placed team in Group A clashing with the third-placed team from Group B, and so forth.  The teams ranked fourth and fifth in Group A playing each other again.

The semi-finalists will be determined based on their group stage results to determine last-four matchups. Additionally, the two highest-ranked losing quarter-finalists will play a fifth-place playoff to decide which team qualifies for Group A. They will earn an automatic quarter-final berth in next year’s Women’s World Championship.

The bottom two teams in the final ranking will be relegated from the top division of the Women’s World Championship and play in Division I Group A next year.
