With the conclusion of IPL 2026, all will be on the one-off Test between India and Afghanistan, which is scheduled to start on June 6 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. Both sides haven’t faced each other in this format since 2018.
The last time India’s Test team faced Afghanistan, it was a totally different setup as the Men in Blue were led by Ajinkya Rahane, and Afghanistan was led by Asghar Afghan. This match was played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and India posted 474 in the first innings, thanks to Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan’s centuries. India showcased pure dominance as Afghanistan’s innings folded within the first two days in both matches.
The Indian Test team has also revamped now, and they once again enter the match as favourites. Shubman Gill will lead the side featuring several young members. Much of the focus will be on the new faces in the squad and how they seize their opportunities. Equally interesting will be the response of Rishabh Pant, who has been removed from the vice-captaincy following a disappointing IPL campaign and will be eager to make a strong statement on the field.
