IND vs AUS: On the first day of the Pink Ball Test played in Adelaide, Mitchell Starc took six wickets for India while Jasprit Bumrah may have taken only one wicket but he also got an interesting statistic to his name. But wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant also got an unwanted statistic during Bumrah’s bowling. Let’s take a look at these interesting stats. Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan have also done this feat before Bumrah
This is the third time in 2024 that India has won the toss and decided to bat first and the entire team has been all out for a score of 180 or less. Before this, only one team has been all out after winning the toss and deciding to bat for a score less than this in a calendar year. India was all out five times in 1959 after deciding to bat first.
Stats made on day 1 of IND vs AUS 2nd Test
- 48 for 6 Starc’s bowling figures in the first innings against India are his best in Tests. This is also Starc’s first haul against India in Tests. Starc had taken 51 wickets in 19 matches against India before this match.
- This is the third time Starc has taken a wicket off the first ball of a Test match. He and Pedro Collins are the only ones to take wickets off the first ball on three occasions in Tests. Starc had earlier dismissed Dimuth Karunaratne off the first ball in the 2016 Galle Test and Rory Burns off the first ball in the 2021 Brisbane Test.
- He was also on Friday the first bowler to take a wicket off the first ball of a Pink Ball Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal for his third duck in nine innings.
- Bumrah will be the bowler to take 50 wickets in Tests in 2024. Only Zaheer Khan (51 wickets in 2002) and Kapil Dev (74 in 1979 and 75 in 1983) could do this feat among the Indian fast bowlers in a calendar year. He is the first among fast bowlers to get the feat after Pat Cummins took more than 50 wickets in a calendar year in 2019.
- He’s now the fourth wicket in 4 day-night Test matches for Starc. No other bowler has achieved this feat more than twice. Starc has played 13 day-night Test matches so far, which is the joint most matches played by any player.
- Starc has taken 53 wickets at Adelaide Oval and he is now the third bowler to attain the figure of 50 wickets at this venue. Before Starc, Nathan Lyon had 63 wickets while Shane Warne had 56 at this venue. The strike rate of Starc at Adelaide Oval stands at 34.9 which comes third in the list among bowlers who have recorded more than 50 wickets at a venue.
- Out of the total nine catches dropped by wicketkeepers in international cricket off Bumrah’s bowling, eight have been dropped by Pant. Pant has taken 34 catches on 42 occasions with a percentage of 80.95 off Bumrah’s bowling. Pant’s figure reaches 92.42 percent of other fast bowlers’ bowling. Pant has dropped only 10 catches in 132 matches off other fast bowlers’ bowling.
- In this series, Nitish Kumar Reddy has so far hit six sixes in three innings, out of which five sixes have been hit against fast bowlers. This is the best figure by an Indian batsman on Australian soil in Tests. Zaheer, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, and Pant have hit three sixes each off him.
