Ind vs Ban: Langurs Employed To Combat Monkey At Kanpur’s 2nd Test

In an unexpected and innovative move, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has hired langurs to address a peculiar problem during the ongoing Ind vs Ban 2nd Test at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium. The association has turned to these primates to tackle the menace caused by food-stealing monkeys, which have been disrupting the match and troubling both fans and the broadcasting crew.

The Monkey Menace During the Ind vs Ban Test

Ind vs Ban Monkey

The Ind vs Ban 2nd Test brought cricket fans to Green Park Stadium, but it also attracted unwanted visitors—monkeys. These notorious creatures have long been a problem, stealing snacks and drinks from the spectators, workers, and broadcasting crew. The aggressive behavior of these monkeys has led the UPCA to employ langurs, a known deterrent, to restore order in the stands and keep the mischief at bay.

Why Langurs Were Hired During Ind vs Ban

Speaking to Indian Express, Sanjay Kapoor, the venue director of Green Park Stadium, explained that the broadcasting camera operators were particularly targeted by monkeys. These operators, stationed in elevated stands for the best camera angles, were easy prey for monkeys looking to grab their food and drinks. To combat this, the UPCA introduced langurs and their handlers, a measure designed to ensure the smooth broadcasting of the Ind vs Ban match.

Additionally, the raised stands for the TV crews have been enclosed with black cloth on the sides and back to further deter the monkeys from entering and disrupting the broadcasting process.

Langurs: A Proven Solution in Kanpur

Interestingly, this is not the first time that langurs have been used to ward off monkeys at the Green Park Stadium. Previous matches, including past Ind vs Ban series, have also seen similar interventions. The presence of langurs, along with their handlers, has proven to be an effective solution in keeping monkeys away from critical areas during such events.

Weather Delays in the Ind vs Ban 2nd Test

While the UPCA has successfully addressed the monkey issue, nature presented its own challenge during the Ind vs Ban Test. Rain has disrupted play since the first day, limiting the action to just 35 overs before bad light and rain halted proceedings. The second day’s start was also delayed due to continued rain in Kanpur.

India had opted to bowl first after winning the toss, and they made an impactful start. Akash Deep’s impressive opening spell saw Bangladesh lose two quick wickets within the first 13 deliveries, followed by Ravichandran Ashwin dismissing captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. At the close of play, Bangladesh’s score was 107/3, with Mominul Haque unbeaten at 40 and Mushfiqur Rahim batting at 6.

Conclusion

The UPCA’s decision to hire langurs during Ind vs Ban 2nd Test in Kanpur shows an innovative approach to ensuring the smooth running of a cricket match despite unique challenges. The monkeys, who have long been a nuisance, have finally met their match with the langurs guarding the stands. While rain continues to pose difficulties in play, the UPCA has taken all necessary steps to protect the fans and broadcasting crew from further disruption. As the match progresses, it’s clear that the monkey menace is no match for these vigilant langurs.
