IND vs ENG Test Series: R. Ashwin shared who he thinks will score the most runs and take the most wickets

Before the 5-match Test series between India and England, R. Ashwin has shared his prediction. On his YouTube channel, he said who he thinks will score the most runs and take the most wickets, for both teams.

IND vs ENG Test Series: A new chapter begins under Shubman Gill’s captaincy

India will tour England under their new Test captain, Shubman Gill. Their World Test Championship 2025-27 journey will begin from the first Test at Headingley, Leeds on June 20. After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket, the team looks a bit less experienced in batting, though a few senior players are still part of the squad.

IND vs ENG Test Series: England’s bowling looks weak for the first match

England might face some trouble in the first match because a few of their important bowlers won’t be available. Mark Wood will miss the first three Tests, Jofra Archer might return for the second match, and Gus Atkinson is still recovering from a hamstring injury. So their bowling looks weak for now.

Ashwin did not name Bumrah as top wicket-taker

Ashwin clearly said he doesn’t think Jasprit Bumrah will take the most wickets in the series because he will play only three matches. He picked Mohammed Siraj instead, who he feels will perform well in most of the games.

For England, Ashwin said Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir could be the top wicket-takers. If Woakes plays all five matches, he has a good chance to take the most wickets.

As per Ashwin “If Chris Woakes plays every match, he can take the most wickets in the series. Shoaib Bashir is also a good option. From India, since Bumrah is not playing all games, I think Siraj will lead.”

IND vs ENG Test Series: Ashwin trusts Pant and Root for most runs

When asked about top run-scorers, Ashwin named KL Rahul but also said openers may face some trouble in the first innings. So he picked Rishabh Pant instead. For England, he said Joe Root is the best option, though Ben Duckett could also do well.

As per Ashwin “I was thinking of KL Rahul, but since he is opening, he may face problems in the first innings. So Rishabh Pant is my top choice. For England, I can’t look beyond Root, though Duckett is also a good shout.”

Rahul has shown good form earlier

KL Rahul scored a century and a half-century in both innings for India A against England Lions earlier this month. Based on that performance, he is expected to open the innings, probably with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
