Ind vs SL: Shikhar Dhawan to lead India against Sri Lanka in the limited overs series in July

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named vice-captain for the tour while Dinesh Karthik who was hopeful for a comeback, missed out.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 20 players squad for the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. Left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan has been given the responsibility to lead a young side while seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be vice-captain.

Many young and upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) players were hoping for their maiden call-up. Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Chetan Sakariya, Nitish Rana, and K Gowtham have been named for India for the first time.

While Prithvi Shaw, Manish Pandey, Sanju Samson were called back. Shaw’s IPL form has translated into an India call-up. Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Bhuvneshwar Kumar are also included. Varun Chakravarthy was first got injured ahead of the limited overs series against Australia and then failed the fitness test before England’s T20I series.

Krishnappa Gowtham, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya are all-rounders. Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are wicket-keepers. Ishan Porel, Sandeep Warrier, Arshdeep Singh, Sai Kishore, and Simarjeet Singh have been named as net bowlers.

BCCI stated that the venue for all matches is R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The ODI’s are scheduled on July 13, 16, and 18 followed by the T20I’s on July 21, 23, and 25.

Shreyas Iyer, T Natarajan are healing from their respective injuries. Ravi Bishnoi and Dinesh Karthik missed out. Rahul Dravid will to coach the side.
