IND vs WI: Reddy Omitted From ODI And T20 Squad
India Announces Squad for ODI and T20I IND vs WI, Series Against West Indies: New Faces in the Lineup.
IND vs WI: The Indian women’s cricket team has announced the squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against the West Indies. There are several changes, with new faces on the side. The series is starting in mid-December and has led to some changes in the team, where strategy and the development of new talent have been key factors.
Notable Omissions and Changes before IND vs WI, ODI, and T20 Series
A big omission from both the ODI and T20I squads is fast bowler Arundhati Reddy. This cricketer has been a standout performer for India in previous series. Even though she is India’s joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2023 T20 World Cup, Reddy has been omitted from the squad for this series. In the T20 World Cup, Reddy picked up seven wickets from four games, showing her ability to make crucial breakthroughs.
However, she has been left out of the present team. Her exclusion has sent shock waves, as she had also done well in the third ODI against Australia earlier this year, where she took 4 wickets for 26 runs and tore the top order of the opposition. According to reports, Reddy has been told to play in the Senior Women’s ODI Trophy currently underway, where she is playing for Hyderabad.
Another notable exclusion is the left-arm spinner Radha Yadav, who had an exceptional outing in India’s latest series against New Zealand as she emerged as the team’s top wicket-taker in that series. Moreover, Yastika Bhatia, Shreyanka Patil, and Priya Punia have been left out of the side owing to injuries.
Young Guns in IND vs WI T20I and ODI Contingent
There are many exciting young faces featuring in the squad, all of whom have caught people’s attention with their showings in domestic cricket. Wicketkeeper-batsman Nandini Kashyap, 21, finds a place in the T20I side for the first time after scoring most runs for Uttarakhand in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy. In seven innings in the just-concluded league stage of the tournament, Nandini Kashyap tallied up 247 runs – with 117 not out against Pondicherry in the fifth match.
Her strong domestic performances have earned her a spot on the national team, and she will look to make an impact in the upcoming series.
Raghavi Bisht, at 20, is the other debutant in the T20I squad and has really made a mark with her performances in the domestic arena. She performed very well for India A during their ODI series against Australia A in August, striking three consecutive half-centuries in the series and a match-winning 53 in the third ODI. Pressure has come her way to get selected for the national team, and she certainly deserves that call-up.
In the ODI team, Pratika Rawal, 24, and Tanuja Kanwar, 26, are two new faces. Rawal, who shot into prominence in 2021 with an unbeaten 161 in the domestic ODI competition, was also the second-highest run-scorer in the Under-23 ODI Trophy earlier this year, aggregating 411 runs in seven innings.
Kanwar is a left-arm spinner who has played for India in four T20 games and was also part of the India A series against Australia. She adds experience and variety to the spin department that complements the attacking bowling.
There are some notable changes in the team, with the addition of Priya Mishra, Uma Chhetri, Saima Thakor, Minnu Mani, and Titas Sadhu. These players have been added for their all-around skills and will bring depth to both the batting and bowling departments.
The T20I series will start from December 15th in Navi Mumbai, while the ODIs are planned for December 22nd, 24th, and 27th in Vadodara. This change in the squad is going to give a boost to the Indian team as they have been performing well in recent matches and will continue to maintain their dominance while also giving opportunities to new talents on the international stage.
