India can send second-string side for Asia Cup 2021

According to The Times of India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might send the second-string side to the Asia Cup 2021 because of the tight international schedule.

The Asia Cup is scheduled to start in Sri Lanka from June 2021 and as India also reached the ICC World Test Championship Finals, they were scheduled to face New Zealand from June 18-22 in England.

Amid the tight schedule and corona restrictions, Team India will stay in the UK for the five-match Test series against England, which is scheduled to start from 4 August.

A source was quoted as saying in a TOI report:

“There’s no other choice. We can’t risk the preparation for the series in England. And cricketers can’t twice undergo quarantine. If the Asia Cup happens, India will have no option but to send a second-string squad.”

Team India got the tickets to the finals o ICC WTC after defeating England by 3-1 in the four-match Test series. They also defeated Australia in their home and created history at the Gabba.
