India replaces Axar Patel with Washington Sundar for the Asia Cup Final against Sri Lanka due to injury. Get the latest update on the squad.
In a surprise move, India has made a sudden change to their Asia Cup squad just before the final match scheduled for Sunday, 17th September.
Washington Sundar has been announced as a replacement for Axar Patel on the eve of the Asia Cup Final showdown against Sri Lanka. Sundar has already arrived in Colombo and is now part of the team.
Axar Patel suffered a left quadriceps strain during India’s last Super Four game against Bangladesh on September 15th, ruling him out of the crucial final match.
During the match against Bangladesh, Axar showcased his prowess with the bat, scoring 42 runs off 34 balls, including three fours and two sixes. Despite taking multiple blows during his innings, he fought valiantly to keep India in contention. However, Bangladesh’s bowlers eventually pulled off a remarkable victory, winning by six runs.
Sundar, who replaces Axar, boasts 16 wickets in as many ODIs, with an impressive average of 27.18 and an economy rate close to five. He has also proven to be a valuable contributor with the bat, amassing 233 runs in nine innings, including a fifty against New Zealand.
India’s squad for Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, KL Rahul (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya (VC), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar.
It’s worth noting that Sundar is also part of India’s Asian Games squad and is expected to join the camp after the conclusion of the Asia Cup final.
