India’s men’s hockey team has had a season full of ups and downs in the FIH Pro League 2025-26. It started with heavy defeats at home and went through a long run without a win.
But by the time the tournament reached its final leg in London, India had turned things around with some of their best performances of the season, including a historic pair of victories over arch-rivals Pakistan in what were the first-ever India vs Pakistan matches in FIH Pro League history.
The team played its 16 matches across four venues in four different countries: Rourkela (India), Hobart (Australia), Rotterdam (Netherlands), and London (England).
The season ends on June 28, 2026, with India’s final match against England still to be played.

Venue 1: ROURKELA, INDIA
(Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium, Dates: February 11-15, 2026)
India started their Pro League campaign at home, hosting Belgium and Argentina at the famous Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela.
Match 1- India vs Belgium (11th Feb,2026)
India lost their season opener against world No. 2 Belgium. Belgium were strong from the start. Nelson Onana, Thomas Crols, and Arno Van Dessel scored for Belgium, while Shilanand Lakra got India’s only goal. The two teams were level 1-1 at half-time, but Belgium pulled ahead in the final quarter to win.
Match 2 – India vs Argentina (12th Feb,2026)
This was India’s worst result of the season. Argentina’s Tomas Domene was ruthless, scoring four times. Other scorers for Argentina were Tomas Ruiz, Lucio Mendez, Ignacio Ibarra, and Nicolás della Torre.
India couldn’t score a single goal, making it even more worse, captain Harmanpreet Singh had missed a penalty stroke in the first quarter.
Match 3 – India vs Belgium (14th Feb,2026)
India tried to bounce back against Belgium but lost again. Aditya Lalage and captain Harmanpreet Singh scored for India. But Belgium were too strong, with Alexander Hendrickx scoring twice and Hugo Labouchere and Arthur de Sloover also finding the net.
Match 4 – India vs Argentina (15th Feb,2026)
India ended their home leg with another defeat. Aditya Lalage and Sanjay scored for India, but Argentina’s Tadeo Marcucci, Tomas Domene, and Lucio Mendez were too good on the day. India lost all four home matches and sat eighth in the table.
Venue 2: HOBART, AUSTRALIA
(Tasmania Hockey Centre, Dates: February 21-25, 2026)
After a miserable home leg, India travelled to Australia hoping to turn things around.
Match 5 – India vs Spain (21st Feb,2026)
India’s troubles continued in Hobart. Spain’s Ignacio Abajo scored early, and Ignacio Cobos made it 2-0 in the second quarter. India created chances but could not convert. It was their fifth straight defeat. In a last-ditch effort, India even pulled their goalkeeper out in the final minutes to add an extra attacker, but it did not work.
Match 6 – India vs Australia (22nd Feb, 2026)
India finally showed some fight. They drew 2-2 with the hosts in regulation time. Australia’s Jeremy Hayward scored in the 49th minute to give the home side the lead, but India’s Shilanand Lakra equalized it with a brilliant field goal just two minutes later.
However, in the shootout, Australia edged India.
Match 7 – India vs Spain (24th Feb, 2026)
India drew 1-1 with Spain. Again, they pushed hard but fell short in the shootout. India earned just one point from this match.
Match 8 – India vs Australia (25th Feb, 2026)
India’s first win of the season, and it felt like a big moment. The match ended 1-1 after 60 minutes, but India showed nerves of steel in the shootout. Shilanand Lakra, Maninder Singh, and Vishnukant Singh all scored for India in the shootout, while goalkeeper Mohith Shashikumar Honnenahalli was outstanding under pressure.
Venue 3: ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS
(Hockey Club Rotterdam, Dates: June 14-21, 2026)
India came to Rotterdam with new energy after winning their last match.
Match 9 – India vs Netherlands (14th June,2026)
India lost their first match in Rotterdam but showed a lot more fight than earlier in the season. Dilpreet Singh and Sukhjeet Singh scored for India. For the Netherlands, Miles Bukkens, Koen Bijen, and Tijmen Reyenga scored.
Match 10 – India vs Germany (17th/18th June, 2026)
India’s first outright win in the league. They beat world champions Germany in Rotterdam. Mandeep Singh, Shilanand Lakra, and Nilakanta Sharma scored for India. Germany’s only goal came from Raphael Hartkopf. This match was also historic as veteran midfielder Manpreet Singh became India’s most-capped hockey player ever with his 413th international appearance, breaking the record previously held by former captain Dilip Tirkey.
Match 11- India vs Germany (19th June, 2026)
India came close to defeating Germany again but was denied by two late goals. Jugraj Singh, who was playing his 100th international match, gave India the lead with a drag-flick in the third quarter. But Germany came back with goals by Justus Weigand and Jakob Brilla in the final four minutes to turn the game around.
Match 13- India vs Netherlands (21st June, 2026)
This was one of India’s best wins of the entire season. They beat defending Pro League champions Netherlands in their own backyard in Rotterdam. Jugraj Singh, Abhishek and Rajinder Singh scored for India. The Netherlands responded through van der Heijden and Koen Bijen, but India’s defence held firm.
Venue 4: LONDON, ENGLAND
(Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, Dates: June 23-28, 2026)
India’s final leg brought the most excitement of the season and the most historic moments. Here, for the first time, India played Pakistan in the FIH Pro League.
Match 13 – India vs Pakistan (23rd June, 2026)
A match hockey fans had been waiting years for. Pakistan drew first through Ahmad Nadeem with a penalty stroke. But India fought back brilliantly. Abhishek equalized and then Nilakanta Sharma put India ahead. India went into half-time 2-1 up. Sukhjeet Singh made it 3-1, but Pakistan kept fighting. Abu Mahmood and Moin Shakeel scored to make it a tense finish at 3-2 and then 4-3. India held on for a famous win, with captain Manpreet Singh winning Player of the Match.
Match 14 – India vs England (26th June, 2026)
India drew 2-2 with England in a close game. Dilpreet Singh scored twice for India, while England’s David Goodfield and Nicholas Bandurak scored too. In the shootout, England won.
Match 15 – India vs Pakistan (26th June, 2026)
India’s biggest win of the season and one of their most complete performances in years. Pakistan led after Abu Bakar Mahmood scored from a penalty corner. But then India took total control. Seven different Indian players got on the scoresheet, including Sukhjeet Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Jugraj Singh, Abhishek, Raj Kumar Pal, and Dilpreet Singh.
Hardik Singh was named Player of the Match, and the result confirmed Pakistan’s relegation from the Pro League.
Match 16 – India vs England Venue (28th June, 2026)
