How Much Do Indian National Basketball Players Earn

Basketball is making slow strides in India. Although the sport is not as popular as cricket or hockey in the country, it is nonetheless attracting youngsters. 

With the launch of tournaments like the Pro International Basketball League (InBL Pro U25), India is making an effort to transform its basketball landscape. With international basketball players participating in the tournament, young local players gain experience from them. 

India are currently 76th in the FIBA world rankings. Infrastructural bottlenecks have hampered the growth of basketball in India as a sport. 

In an attempt to give a philip to the sport, the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) recently announced monthly remuneration for the top 20 Category-A men and women players.The players were selected based on their performance in the last four years at the senior nationals and international tournaments. All the players, both men and women receive a monthly remuneration of Rs. 75000 each.

The Selection Committee in consultation with India’s head coach appointed by BFI analyse and review player performance in Nationals. Based on these evaluations, players may be promoted to a higher category or demoted to the B or C category.

Basketball players In India had been suffering without remuneration. With this decision, players are expected to get a motivational boost. 

The B and C category list is also expected to come out even as authorities are mulling to include U-16 and U-18 (boys and girls) in the remuneration list
