The Indian cricket team is scheduled to open its campaign in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on October 4th with a match against the New Zealand cricket team. The highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash will be on October 6 in Dubai.

Harmanpreet Kaur Has Been Appointed As The Captain

Harmanpreet Kaur has been appointed as the captain of the Indian squad, which has a strong flavor of both experience and youth. There are no big surprises in the squad, except a few WPL names who have been rewarded for their consistent performances in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

The WPl stars include the likes of Asha Sobhana, Shreyanka Patil, and Sajeevan Sajana. While Sajeevan Sajana plays for Mumbai Indians and impressed one and all with her power-hitting skills, on the other hand, Sobhana and Patil represent Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the WPL. Shreyanka and Asha were the top two-wicket takers of WPL 2024. Patil ended the tournament with 13 wickets in eight games at an average of 12.07, on the other hand, Sobhana picked up 12 wickets in 10 innings at an average of 15.41.

Meanwhile, the squad features a strong batting order, especially with all the responsibility on the experienced opening duo of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma to provide India a good start at the top. The middle order looks solid with the presence of Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Dayalan Hemalatha. Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh has also been included in the squad.
