Players who made their debut in a Women’s T20 World Cup match are players who have great potential to score runs and take wickets. Players like Harmanpreet Kaur, Latika Kumari, Priyanka Roy, and many more have already left a mark with their ability to contribute to the team in the long term. 

In 2025, IND-W won the most prestigious ICC Women’s ODI World Cup on 2nd November under Harmanpreet Kaur’s captaincy, defeating South Africa in the final by 52 runs. Let us see which top players made their debut in a Women’s T20 World Cup match and later left a legacy.

1. Harmanpreet Kaur, Priyanka Roy, and Latika Kumari– vs ENG-W, Taunton, 2009

On 11th June 2009, India Women faced England Women in the 2nd match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2009 at Taunton. Three debutants made their debut in the match: Harmanpreet Kaur, Priyanka Roy, and Latika Kumari, as they played their first WT20I match on the World Cup stage. Harmanpreet Kaur scored 24(23), 

Latika Kumari, as an opener, could only contribute 4(9), and Priyanka Roy scored 8(6), as India Women lost that match by 10 wickets. In the future, Harmanpreet Kaur became a women’s cricket sensation and is also the current captain of the Indian Women’s cricket team.

2. Punam Raut – vs PAK-W, Taunton, 2009

In the 6th match of Pool B at Taunton on 13th June 2009, Punam Raut made her WT20I debut at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2009, and in that match, Punam Raut didn’t contribute any runs for the team. 

However, she left a great mark in WT20Is, as with her 719 runs, a strike rate of 92.17, and an average of 27.65 in 35 matches, she left a great mark in her career as an opener batter. 

3. Anuja Patil – vs ENG-W, Galle, 2012 

In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2012, 19-year-old debutant Anuja Patil played her first WT20I match against England Women in the 8th group stage match, played on 29th September 2012. Anuja Patil didn’t take any wickets.

With her economical bowling and tight lines, England Women batters struggled to score runs. Later in her WT20I career, she took 48 wickets in 50 matches, with best bowling figures of 3/14 and an economy of 5.83. 

4. Rasanara Parwin – vs PAK-W, Galle, 2012 

In the 11th group stage match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2012 at Galle, Rasanara Parwin made her debut in the shortest format of cricket, and bowling first, IND-W displayed great resistance, as Rasanara Parwin took 2 wickets in her 4-over spell.

Conceding only 15 runs. She produced a great spell and restricted Pakistan Women to 98/9 after 20 overs, and later in the second innings, India Women fell short and lost the match by 1 run. Rasanara Parwin left a great influence on that match. 

5. Dayalan Hemalatha – vs NZ-W, Providence, 2018

At Providence, in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2018, Dayalan Hemalatha made her WT20I debut against New Zealand Women, and she scored 15(7) in the first innings as India Women finished at 194/5. In the second innings. 

Dayalan took crucial 3 wickets in 4 overs with an economy of 6.50, dismissing Amy Satterthwaite, Anna Peterson, and Maddy Green. She left a pivotal mark in her first WT20I match, and later she became a crucial figure in the Indian Women’s cricket team. 

6. Prema Rawat – vs SA-W, Old Trafford, 2026

Prema Rawat, a 24-year-old leg-break bowler, made her debut at Old Trafford in the 10th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on 21st June 2026, in the 18th group stage match of the tournament against South Africa Women. 

In the first innings, Prema Rawat scored only 3 runs, and in the second, she went wicketless. She couldn’t make any crucial contributions, but young Prema has great potential, as she plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the WPL and is a key figure in franchise cricket.
