Indian Women’s Hockey Team Sets Off for Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier in Oman

The Indian women’s hockey team embarks on their journey to compete in the Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier taking place from August 25 to 28 in Salalah, Oman. Led by Captain Navjot Kaur, the squad aims to secure a spot in the semifinals by competing against teams like Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand in the Elite Pool.

The Indian women’s hockey team has set out on its journey to participate in the Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier, scheduled from August 25 to 28 in Salalah, Oman. The team’s objective is to secure a place in the semifinals by competing in the Elite Pool, which includes formidable opponents such as Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand.

The squad, under the leadership of Captain Navjot Kaur, is ready to showcase their skills and determination in this crucial tournament. Vice-captain Jyoti, along with goalkeeper Bansari Solanki, will form the core of the team. The defensive lineup will feature Akshata Abaso Dhekale, Mahima Chaudhary, and Sonia Devi Kshetrimayum. In the midfield, the responsibilities will be shared by Captain Navjot and Ajmina Kujur, while the forward positions will be manned by Mariana Kujur, Jyoti, and Dipi Monika Toppo.

To advance to the semifinals, India will compete against their counterparts in the Elite Pool. Their campaign kicks off with a match against Malaysia on August 25, followed by encounters with Japan on August 26 and Thailand on August 27.

Expressing her anticipation for the tournament, Team Coach Soundarya Yendala remarked, “We are eager to get started with the tournament. Extensive preparation has gone into gearing up for the Women’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier. Our aim is to perform consistently well throughout the tournament and capitalize on our hard work by clinching the tournament victory.”

Captain Navjot Kaur exuded confidence in India’s chances at the qualifier: “While our pool comprises strong opponents, we have dedicated ourselves to preparing for this tournament. I am confident that we will give our best effort and return home with medals, considering the amount of effort we have invested,” she affirmed.
