India’s blind cricket teams showcased remarkable performances at the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games 2023, with the men’s team securing a convincing victory over Australia and the women’s team delivering a stunning display against England.

Men’s Team Triumphs Over Australia: The Indian men’s blind cricket team bounced back after a defeat against Pakistan, displaying their prowess by defeating Australia by 8 wickets in a resounding victory. Opting to bat first, Australia faced an early setback with the loss of a wicket in the opening over. However, M Zannis and S Nero steadied the innings during the powerplay. S Nero’s resilient knock of 51 runs off 43 balls and M Cameron’s contribution of 38 runs off 39 balls propelled Australia to a total of 139/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

In response, India showcased remarkable batting prowess, led by Nareshbhai Balubhai Tumda’s brilliant half-century (62 not out off 33 balls). Supported by Sunil Ramesh and Nakula Badanayak, who scored 47 and 25 runs respectively, India comfortably chased down the target of 140 runs in just 13 overs. This victory marked India’s first win in the IBSA World Games 2023, underscoring their determination and skill.

Women’s Team Dominates England: The Indian women’s blind cricket team continued their winning streak, thrashing England by a monumental 185 runs. Opting to bat first, India encountered an early setback with a wicket loss in the second over. However, Gangavva Neelappa Harijan’s explosive start propelled India to a formidable score of 97 runs in the powerplay. Neelappa’s exceptional century (117 off 60 balls) elevated India’s score past the 200-run mark in the 14th over. The vice-captain, Phula Saren, and Valasanaini Ravanni contributed with scores of 49 and 54 runs respectively, propelling India to a commanding total of 268/2 in 20 overs.

Chasing a daunting target of 269 runs, England struggled right from the start, managing only 22 runs in the first 4 overs with the loss of a wicket. The chase became increasingly challenging for England as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Their struggles culminated in a total of 83/8 in 20 overs, as India’s bowling attack proved too formidable for the opposition. India’s comprehensive victory by 185 runs exemplified their all-around dominance and cohesive team performance.

Upcoming Matches: The Indian men’s blind cricket team is set to face England on Tuesday, aiming to continue their winning momentum. Meanwhile, the women’s team will meet Australia on Wednesday in the ongoing IBSA World Games 2023 in Birmingham.
