India’s ODI squad for the much-awaited India tour of England was announced on Sunday, 21st June 2026. Two of the best batters in the world, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, will be seen together and will be playing the part of senior figures. They both will be a part of the squad after a nearly six-month break, as the last time they were seen in the squad was during the New Zealand 2025/26 series.
As Virat Kohli had undergone a hamstring injury in the final match of the IPL 2026, this was the reason why he wasn’t picked for the India tour of Afghanistan in 2026. However, Kohli will hopefully be back in action from 14th July 2026, in the first ODI match against England at Edgbaston, if he clears all the fitness parameters, as he is under “Subject to Fitness Clearance”.
Many famous names were expected to be seen in the India tour of England 2026, but they were not present. Hardik Pandya and Yashasvi Jaiswal were among them. Hardik Pandya was unavailable for the series, as he is suffering from an injury he got during the IPL 2026 season, and he was incapable of recovering from the injury, as this was the reason for his unavailability from India’s ODI squad.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s absence raises many questions for the board, as he proved himself in the Afghanistan series. In the third ODI match at Chennai, Jaiswal scored 110 runs in 86 balls with a strike rate of 127.91. His ferocious knock took India to a 9-wicket victory, and after his blistering performance, he is still not considered by the board for India’s ODI squad.
In the KKR vs DC match on 8th May 2026, marquee spinner Varun Chakravarthy was injured, and earlier, the mystery spinner had suffered a fracture and still played with an injury against the Gujarat Titans and the Mumbai Indians.
He is in the final stages of his rehabilitation at the BCCI COE, as he is suffering from a left foot injury. He is ruled out of the T20I Ireland series, which is going to start from 26th June 2026.
