T20 World Cup 2024: Inzamam-ul-Haq Accused Arshdeep Singh For Ball-Tampering

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has accused the Indian cricket team of consistently tampering with the ball in their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. Inzamam made a bizarre claim that Indian bowlers, especially Arshdeep Singh, have been consistently tampering with the ball to ensure reverse swing, suggesting this is the reason behind Men in Blue’s success in the ongoing tournament.

For the unversed, Indian star bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh have been in some stellar form lately. In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, Bumrah and Arshdeep have played a decisive role in India’s success with the ball.

While the Indian cricket team has been receiving praise for their dominating performances in the T20 World Cup 2024, Inzamam-ul-Haq has brought a controversial angle to their success by making a bizarre claim.

During a show for Pakistan news channel 24 News HD, Inzamam and another former Pakistan captain Saleem Malim, talked about Arshdeep Singh’s reverse swinging deliveries in India’s Super 8 clash against Australia on June 24th.

Inzamam-ul-Haq Accused Arshdeep Singh For Ball-Tampering

The former Pakistani cricketers claimed that the 14th or 15th over of a game is too soon for a pacemaker to get a reverse swing on the ball. Speaking at the show for 24 News HD, Inzamam said:

Arshdeep Singh, when he was bowling the 15th over, the ball was reversing. is it too early (for reverse swing) with the new ball? This means the ball was ready for reverse swing by the 12th or the 13th over. Umpires should keep their eyes open (to spot) these things…If it was Pakistani bowlers (reverse swinging the ball) this would have been a big issue. We know reverse swing very well and if Arshdeep can come in the 15th over and start reversing the ball, it means some serious work had been done before.”

Inzamam also received acknowledgment for his controversial remark by Saleem Malik. Saleem said:

Inzy, I always say this, eyes are kept shut when it comes to some teams, and India is one of those teams. I remember in Zimbabwe, when Wasim (Akram) was bowling, he made it wet, and we all were surprised at it; as in how come one side was wet, and when I went and complained I was fined quite heavily.”

Talking about the aforementioned incident, it was in the 16th over of Australia’s 205-run chase when the first hint of Arshdeep Singh getting a reverse swing game. The next ball of that over was missed by both Travis Head and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and went for four runs. Arshdeep’s 3/37 spell played an instrumental role in India’s win over their arch-rivals, which also helped them cement their spot in the semi-final round of the World Cup 2024.

Well, this isn’t the first time that the Pakistani cricketers have made such controversial accusations against the Indian bowlers. After the 2023 ODI World Cup, Hasan Raza claimed that team India used some chips inside the ball, which resulted in Mohammed Shami’s success in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team will be next seen in action in the semi-final round of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, where they will be locking horns with the England cricket team.
