IPL 2021 : 3 reasons why Punjab lost against Delhi
With captian KL Rahul out of the action and Mayank Agarwal not finding support from the other end, Punjab have a lot to discuss
Delhi Capitals made light work of Punjab Kings winning the match comprehensively by 7 wickets today at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first and were given a target of 166.
Here are top three reasons why Punjab needs to go back to drawing room and find answers to.
1. Small target against a solid batting line up.
With captain KL Rahul out of the action and Mayank Agarwal not finding support from the other end, Punjab have a lot of problems while batting. KL Rahul has been in red hot form, was the mainstay of PBKS batting line up. In his absence, Mayank Agarwal stepped up to the responsibility of stand in captain and lead from the front with 99*.
Wickets falling around Agarwal, Gayle out for a low score yet again and no support from the relatively inexperienced middle order, Punjab never really took off.
Hence only managed a mere 166 against a tight bowling line up.
2. Leaking runs
With their bowling mainstay going for just little over 12 per over, Mohammed Shami needs wickets badly up front in powerplay. Only 8 wickets in 8 matches doesn’t do justice to his name.
Ravi Bishnoi was expensive today with 42 run in his four over as was Chris Jordon giving away 21 runs in his two overs. Others didn’t look that lethal to scare a strong batting line up like Delhi.
Thus, match ended in the 18th over itself.
3. Off color fielding
Small totals are made to look big with some good bowling along with outstanding fielding. Punjab looked a bit off color, their body language didn’t looked that great. Letting easy fielding opportunities go for boundaries, Delhi batsmen made full use for this below par fielding efforts from Punjab.
Absence of KL Rahul, inability of batsmen to accelerate and Shami’s poor form hurt Punjab today. After this match Punjab are placed sixth and Delhi jump to top position in points table.
