IPL 2021: 3 things that went wrong for CSK
3 things that made CSK lose their opening match against DC.
The misery for CSK continues this season as well. Although it’s quite early to say, their disappointing show in the first match, speaks volumes in itself.
In the 2nd match of VIVO IPL 2021, CHENNAI SUPER KINGS made a horrendous start by losing to last year’s finalists, DELHI CAPITALS.
DC thrashed CSK by 7 Wickets
Here are the 3 reasons that led to a CSK‘s abysmal performance in their first match:
1. Poor performance from the openers continue
CSK didn’t have the best of starts in the first match, as they lost their openers in the powerplay overs. Faf wasn’t even able to open his scoring and Gaikwad followed him very soon.
The opening has been one of the concerns that CSK faces. They had the same problem last time around with the openers and a strong base leads to a solid structure, which even stands true to cricket as well.
They need to solidly rectify it next time around.
2. Dhoni’s Anticlimactic show and his position in the batting order.
Dhoni had an Anticlimactic start to the IPL 2021. He too followed the footsteps of his teammate, Faf, and wasn’t even able to score a run. Surprisingly, he decides to come up late, after the fall of the 5th Wicket, which is usually not his preferred position to bat nowadays.
He needs to come up early in the batting order so that he could take time to settle in and then smack shots later. He needs to understand one thing, that he’s needs time because he doesn’t play cricket on regular basis nowadays.
3. A need for a PACEY fast bowler.
Just a few days before the starting of IPL 2021, Josh Hazelwood opted out his name from the tournament, citing the rise of COVID-19 cases in India. A possible selection for the team, this unlikeliest of the absence does hurt the CSK side.
If one observes their howling line-up in accordance to their 1st match XI, you’ll find a saturation of similar paced fast bowlers, who rarely roars more than 140Kmph. This oversaturation of similarly paced bowlers doesn’t give them enough variation, which is an important factor in T20 formats.
The unavailability of Ngidi and Hazelwood’s replacement Behrendorff for the 1st match was known and possibly when they get available, either of them would be chosen ASAP.
