IPL 2021: Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli lead RCB to a Superb Victory
RCB batsmen Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli shared a few things during the post match interview.
In today’s match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede stadium, Bengaluru has won once again as they register their fourth consecutive win of the season whilst climbing to the top of the points table.
In a stellar performance against the Rajasthan Royals, openers Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal played amazing innings to completely finish chasing a total of 178 runs without getting out.
The opening duo scored a whopping 181 runs in 16.3 overs with ease as they mercilessly thrashed Rajasthan Royals bowlers from the very first over.
Devdutt Padikkal was named the “Player of the match” as he scored a 101 off of just 52 balls coupled with 11 boundaries and 6 massive sixers. Padikkal spoke after receiving the award and said “It’s been special. I could only wait my turn. When I was down with COVID, I was thinking of ways to come here and play the first match here. I couldn’t do that but was keen to contribute to the team’s win. The wicket was coming on really well and we got a good start. When you get into a partnership like that, it helps as runs come from both ends.”
When asked if he was worried about the century, he said “Not really, that’s what I was telling Virat to go for it. For me it’s not about getting to a hundred, I wouldn’t mind missing out on hundreds as long as I contribute to the team’s wins. Throughout the innings, there were times when he was going better and then I was going better. Rotation of strike is important. We just clicked well.”
Devdutt Padikkal’s swift and destructive batting pushed RR bowlers to the back foot as they struggled to contain him from hitting, but Padikkal kept going big with the boundaries and sixers to remind them every time that he is not done yet.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Captain Virat Kohli spoke at the post-match presentation after his strong 72 run opening innings against Rajasthan Royals, the captain’s experienced batting that steadily scored runs for the team and on the other hand supported young man Padikkal was a treat to watch. Speaking in the interview, he said he loved how Padikkal played today with such aggressiveness and steady momentum, he also talked about the importance of partnership in T20 cricket when one batsman is going big for the team. He also revealed that he and Padikkal had a conversation about finishing off the match where Padikkal asked Kohli to finish it off but Kohli said he let Padikkal finish it as he wanted to see him get the 100.
Kohli also talked about RCB’s success on the bowling end as he mentioned the bowler’s ability to take crucial wickets in death overs with their experience and skills.
Kohli finished off by appreciating the bowlers saying that they saved 30 runs more and feels they deserve a lot of credit. Kohli also told the fans not to get overexcited as they are being professionals and taking one game at a time as they know that this is a long tournament and the momentum can be lost.
