In the fifth encounter of the Indian Premier League 2021, KKR vs MI, the defending champions restricted Kolkata Knight Riders to 142/7 to register a 10-run victory in Chennai.

KKR sent their openers Nitish Rana and Shubham Gill who added 72 runs to give a solid start to their innings, however, their mini-collapse in the death overs turn around the game in favors of Mumbai Indians. Earlier, Andre Russel took 5 for 15 in just two overs and set the record of best bowling figure after surpassing Harshal Patel’s 5 for 27 against Mumbai Indians. Russel’s 5 for 15 helped his team to bowled Mumbai Indians out for 152 in 20 overs. Sent in the filed to bat, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav added 76 runs for the second wicket to steady MI after the early blow.

Later on, in the post match interview, the KKR skipper, Eoin Morgan said,

“Yes, disappointing to lose. Played some really good cricket for most parts of the game, we looked comfortable in the chase, but they are strong team, came back well and sad that it didn’t work out for us. Made a few mistakes, will need to sort it out.”
