Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings will go head to head against each other in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2023. Gujarat was the team to qualify for the Indian Premier League playoffs. The Hardik Pandya-led side won 10 out of their 14 matches and finished the league stage with 20 points. CSK finished second as they won 8 matches. The MS Dhoni-led side finished the league stage with 17 points. Here is all you need to know before the GT vs CSK clash.

Gujarat Titans will look to extend their winning streak over Chennai Super Kings. GT has faced off against the yellow army thrice in the two seasons they have been part of and have emerged victorious every time. The defending champions look in great form with both bat and ball going into this clash. Opener Shubman Gill is second on the Orange Cap list just behind Faf du Plessis. Gill has scored 680 runs so far and comes into this game with two consecutive hundreds. Their bowlers Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan have also played an instrumental part in their success. Both the bowlers have taken 24 wickets each and currently lead the Purple Cap list.

Chennai Super Kings will have the home advantage going into this game as the MA Chidambaram stadium will host Qualifier 1. The four-time champion side would like to win this clash as they would want to make full use of their home advantage. A win in the Qualifier 1 would result in CSK’s 10th appearance in the IPL Finals. Both CSK openers appear on the Orange Cap list. Devon Conway has scored 585 runs so far while his partner Ruturaj Gaikwad has scored 504 runs. Their bowling was proving to be their weak link earlier in the tournament. Tushar Deshpande is their highest wicket-taker and has taken 20 wickets at an economy rate of 9.52 RPO. His economy has improved a lot which at one point was around 11 RPO.

GT vs CSK Pitch Report:

With each game that goes by, the MA Chidambaram Stadium’s surface becomes slower. The toss is therefore very significant. The best option is to bat first, but GT has a relatively stronger bowling attack that can handle any total, so they can also decide to bowl. On this surface, a good total will be anything above 170.
