After the seven-wicket win, Salt, who had shared a 95-run partnership with Kohli, spoke to the broadcaster. He said that their partnership was important during the run-chase and that the dew made their task easier. The 28-year-old England batter said:
“Kohli and I haven’t batted together much, to put on a partnership like that was key. It’s a ground I know, had a simple game plan coming in. Wanted to go on longer, but not to be. Batting second here makes a bit of difference, you have to hit through the line.”
Earlier, Virat Kohli became the third batter in IPL history, after Rohit Sharma (1070) and David Warner (1093), to score 1000 runs against KKR. Kohli now has 1020 runs against the three-time champions.
KKR is also the fourth IPL team against which Kohli has scored 1000 runs. The other three teams are Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings.
Meanwhile, brilliant half-centuries from Virat Kohli and new signing Phil Salt helped RCB easily beat defending champions KKR by seven wickets in the IPL 2025 opener.
Virat Kohli (59 not out, 36 balls, 4 fours, 3 sixes) and Phil Salt (56, 31 balls, 9 fours, 2 sixes) added 95 runs for the first wicket in just 8.3 overs, as RCB chased down KKR’s score of 174/8 in just 16.2 overs, finishing at 177/3.
Earlier, KKR’s captain Ajinkya Rahane scored a solid 56 and partnered with Sunil Narine (44) for a 103-run stand for the second wicket. At one point, KKR seemed likely to easily reach a total over 200.
However, RCB bowlers, led by left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya (3/29), made a great comeback. Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood also took two wickets.
