Mumbai Indians (MI) have strengthened their team for the IPL 2025 season by signing three former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players. After facing challenges in recent seasons and making mistakes in past auctions, MI used the IPL 2025 mega auction to build a stronger squad. This was essential as MI won their last title in 2020 but struggled with injuries and form in the past four years, only making the playoffs once.

Meanwhile, their rivals, CSK, won two more IPL titles during this period, in 2021 and 2023, and just missed out on the playoffs last season. To improve, MI has brought in three former CSK players to boost their chances for IPL 2025.

Former CSK Players Who Will Represent MI in IPL 2025:

1. Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar, a pace-bowling all-rounder, played for CSK from 2018 to 2024. He was a key player in their three title wins during this time. In his IPL career of 81 matches, Chahar has taken 77 wickets, with 58 of them coming in the powerplay.

MI bought him for INR 9.25 crores in the IPL 2025 auction, beating out CSK, who also tried to get him back. MI plans to use Chahar alongside Trent Boult in the powerplay, which will help captain Hardik Pandya save an extra over from Jasprit Bumrah for the end of the game.

2. Mitchell Santner

Mitchell Santner has been with CSK since 2018 but did not get many chances to play because of the presence of Ravindra Jadeja. Still, whenever he did get to play, Santner performed well. In 18 IPL matches, he took 15 wickets and maintained a tight economy rate of 6.91.

MI picked him up at his base price of INR 2 crores. Mumbai’s spin attack has been weak in recent seasons, and they hope Santner will bring control and improve their bowling.

3. Karn Sharma

Karn Sharma is a leg-spinner who has won IPL titles with multiple teams, including MI (2017), CSK (2018, 2021), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2016. He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the last two IPL seasons.

In the IPL 2025 auction, MI bought him for INR 50 lakhs. Sharma has played 84 IPL matches and has taken 76 wickets in total. His experience and skill will add depth to MI’s spin department.

Conclusion

Mumbai Indians hope that by bringing in these three former CSK players, they can turn their fortunes around in IPL 2025. Deepak Chahar, Mitchell Santner, and Karn Sharma bring a mix of pace, spin, and experience to the team, which could help MI get back to their winning ways. With these additions, MI aims to compete fiercely in the upcoming season and chase their sixth IPL title.
