Chennai Super Kings will play their first match of IPL 2025 on Sunday (23rd March) against Mumbai Indians at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The team, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, has been training hard at the Chepauk Stadium, with all players joining in. All eyes are on MS Dhoni, returning to cricket after a year.
Dhoni, who last played in IPL 2024, joined the Chennai Super Kings early and has been working hard in the nets to prepare for the upcoming season. At 43, he looks fitter than ever. During a practice session on Tuesday (18th March), MS Dhoni impressed everyone with his power-hitting, including a stunning six off a yorker from Matheesha Pathirana using his signature helicopter shot.
Ravichandran Ashwin, watching from the non-striker’s end, couldn’t help but smile, amazed by Dhoni’s continued ability to nail his trademark shots.

IPL 2025 might be Dhoni’s last season, as there has been a lot of talk about his retirement in recent years. He was retained by CSK for INR 4 crore in the uncapped category before the auction. Despite a knee injury, he played well last season.
Dhoni played all 14 matches in IPL 2024 but batted lower due to his injury. He scored 161 runs at a fantastic strike rate of 220. It’s unclear whether he will bat higher in the order this year.
