Mumbai Indians (MI) star Rohit Sharma had a memorable reaction after a lucky escape in the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday, May 1.

Rohit used a last-minute review at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, which helped him stay in the game during the 50th match of IPL 2025 between MI and RR.

Rohit Sharma’s Lucky Escape with DRS Call

Mumbai Indians (MI) lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Rohit Sharma opened with Ryan Rickelton but didn’t play his usual aggressive style. He looked cautious, especially against Rajasthan Royals’ fast bowlers Jofra Archer and Fazalhaq Farooqi.

In the second over, Rohit nearly got out when Farooqi bowled a length delivery that hit him on the back leg. The on-field umpire gave him out, and Rohit, thinking he was dismissed, discussed it with Rickelton. With little time left, he decided to take a review.

The ball-tracker showed the ball had pitched just outside the leg stump, and Rohit reacted with joy, shouting “yeah” before laughing.

Was Rohit Sharma within 15-second countdown?

The big question after Rohit Sharma’s DRS call against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL on Thursday was whether he took the review in time. According to the rules, a review must be taken within 15 seconds.

Rohit’s review was successful, as the third umpire overturned the decision, showing the ball had pitched outside leg stump. However, some fans on social media pointed out that Rohit signaled for the review after the 15-second countdown had ended, sparking a debate about the fairness of the decision.

At the mid-innings break, Rohit talked about the DRS he took in the second over, Rohit said he took a chance – and luckily, it worked in his favor. He said:

“(On his review) The only thing I was worried about was if it was pitching in line or not, it was a knuckle ball so knew it wouldn’t bounce over. Took my chance and it paid off.”
