Suryakumar Yadav has been the Mumbai Indians’ best batsman in IPL 2025. While top players like Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya have not been consistent, Suryakumar has performed well in almost every match.
Suryakumar Yadav Shines Amid Mumbai’s Batting Woes
He is currently the second-highest run-scorer of the season.
No other Mumbai Indians batsman is in the top 15 run-scorers this season, which shows how good Suryakumar Yadav has been. His great form has helped him reach another big milestone.
Suryakumar has broken AB de Villiers’ record for the most runs in an IPL season by a middle-order batsman. De Villiers had scored 687 runs in 2016 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Suryakumar Yadav Surpasses AB de Villiers’ Milestone
Suryakumar went past that record on June 1 during the Qualifier 2 match against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He needed just 15 runs to break the record and did it while scoring 44 runs in the match.
During the match, Suryakumar Yadav reached 700 runs in an IPL season for the first time in his career. He is only the second batsman after Sai Sudharsan to achieve this in IPL 2025.
Suryakumar scored 44 runs from 26 balls, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes. He now has 717 runs this season.
The record for most runs in a single IPL season is still held by Virat Kohli, who scored 973 runs in 2016. No player has reached 900 runs in a season since then.
Meanwhile, fans on social media are hailing Suryakumar Yadav for achieving a new milestone. Check out reactions in comments:

If Suryakumar Yadav started playing for individual records instead of playing for the team, he would have become the most run-scorer ever in T20 Cricket history.
