ToggleDelhi Capitals’ Many Captains
In 17 seasons, DC has had 14 different captains. Even with so many captains, the team has only reached the playoffs six times. The first captain of the team was Virender Sehwag. He led the team in 52 matches and won 28 of them. That’s the most wins by any Delhi Capitals captain.
Changes in Captaincy
After Sehwag, Delhi Capitals had a hard time finding a steady captain. They kept changing captains for many years. But in 2018, Shreyas Iyer became the captain, and things got better. Under Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting, the team made the playoffs three times from 2019 to 2021. Iyer led the team twice to the playoffs, and Rishabh Pant did it once. But after 2021, the team’s performance dropped. In the next three seasons, Delhi Capitals didn’t reach the top four, even with Pant and David Warner as captains.
Indian and Overseas Captains
Delhi Capitals have had both Indian and foreign captains. Indian captains include Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Shreyas Iyer, Pant, Dinesh Karthik, and Zaheer Khan. Some of the foreign captains were David Warner, Kevin Pietersen, JP Duminy, Mahela Jayawardene, Ross Taylor, and James Hopes.
