The Purple Cap, now recognized as the Aramco Purple Cap for sponsorship reasons, is awarded to the IPL’s pioneering wicket-taker. Following the release of the Orange Cap on April 25, 2008, the IPL announced the launch of the Purple Cap on May 13, 2008. The bowler who took the most wickets during the season would carry the Purple Cap while fielding, with the overarching leading wicket-taker at the end of the tournament receiving the actual Purple Cap award on the day of the season’s final. In this article, we will look at the top 5 bowlers who have been awarded the coveted purple cap in the various seasons of the Indian Premier League,

  • Dwayne Bravo (CSK) 

Dwayne John Bravo is a Trinidadian cricketer and veteran West Indies captain. Bravo is a legitimate right-arm seam bowling all-rounder recognized for his assertive lower-order batting and bowling in the last overs of a game. He was recognized as one of the best death bowlers in T20 cricket during his prime. He also has a singing career. Dwayne Bravo ended up taking 32 wickets in 18 Indian premier league innings, with a strike rate of 11.71 and an average of 15.53. Dwayne Bravo was awarded with the Purple Cap in 2013. 

  • Harshal Patel (RCB)

Harshal Patel is an Indian international cricket player who represents India. In the Indian Premier League, he plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore; in domestic cricket, he represents Haryana. Patel made his international debut against New Zealand on November 19, 2021. Harshal Patel was awarded the Purple Cap in 2021 for taking a total of 32 wickets in the Indian Premier League.

  • Kagiso Rabada (DC) 

Kagiso Rabada is a South African international cricketer who plays across all formats. He bowls fast with his right arm. He made his international debut in limited-overs cricket in November 2014, followed by his Test debut in November 2015. By January 2018, he had surpassed both the ICC ODI and Test bowler rankings at the age of 22. In July 2018, he also became the youngest wicket-taker in Test history to take 150 wickets. Kagiso Rabada was awarded with the purple cap in 2020 for taking 30 wickets. 

  • Yuzvendra Chahal (RR) 

Yuzvendra Chahal is an Indian international cricketer who bowls leg spin for the Indian team in white ball cricket. He currently represents Haryana in domestic cricket and the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. He bowls right-arm leg break. Chahal became only the second player in T20I history to take six wickets, and the first Indian to do so. He was the first concussion replacement to be named international cricket match man of the match. He used to be a chess player who demonstrated India nationally and globally. Yuzvendra Chahal was awarded the purple cap in 2022 for taking a total of 27 wickets in the Indian Premier League.

  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar (SRH) 

Bhuvneshwar Kumar Singh is an Indian international cricketer who currently plays for India. He presently plays in the Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad and domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh. He is regarded as one of the world’s most skilled and consistent swing bowlers. Kumar swings the ball well both ways, with his inswingers being more effective than his outswingers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar began his career as an opening swing bowler, but he later expanded his bowling arsenal with reverse swing, slower bowls, and yorkers to become a death-over expert as well. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was awarded the purple cap in 2017 for taking a total of 26 wickets in the Indian Premier League.
