IRE vs ZIM: Zimbabwe’s progression means that Australia have been eliminated from the tournament
Zimbabwe have qualified for the next round of the Men’s T20 World Cup after rain had the final say in their third group game against Ireland. A place in the Super Eight for Zimbabwe means that former T20 World Cup winners Australia have been eliminated.
Zimbabwe’s opponent in this particular game, Ireland, also stands eliminated, having been able to win just one of the four games that they played in the competition.
The Position
The Sikandar Raza-led side now has five points in its kitty with one game to go in the group. Zimbabwe will take on Sri Lanka in their final group match. That particular game is expected to offer a mouth-watering clash between bat and ball as both teams are yet to lose a game in the tournament, and will give it their all to come out on the right side of the result.
The Road Ahead
If we talk about the Super Eight stage of the competition from the point of view of Zimbabwe, the team will face South Africa, India and the West Indies, having replaced Australia, who were supposed to be a part of that particular group according to the pre-seeding method agreed upon to be used before the start of the tournament.
Tournament So Far
Seven of the eight spots available in the next round have already been decided after the result of the matches that took place yesterday, and after today’s abandoned game between Ireland and Zimbabwe.
The Decider
The game between Pakistan and Namibia will decide which team, among USA and Pakistan, will advance to the Super Eight and grab the only available spot.

The Scenario
As things stand, Pakistan have no option other than winning the match against Namibia, as a loss in it would result in them getting eliminated from the tournament after the group stage in the second consecutive edition, having failed to make it to the Super Eight in 2024 as well when the tournament was played in the West Indies and the USA.
Deja Vu
If the Men in Green lose against Namibia, they will make way for USA’s entry into the Super Eight for the second time, having been a part of this particular stage in 2024 as well. Interestingly, if the USA qualify for the next round, it would mean that the two very teams that qualified from the same group in 2024 would progress to the Super Eight in 2026 as well.
The Teams
Other than India, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, West Indies, England, South Africa and New Zealand are the six teams that have confirmed their spot in the Super Eight.
