Jasprit Bumrah, India’s outstanding fast bowler, further enforced his place as India’s premier T20 international bowler when he recorded 3/15 from 4 overs in a T20 World Cup match against South Africa in Ahmedabad, breaking records along the way.
In the same match, the rest of the Indian bowling attack combined to give up 172 runs and claim 4 wickets, whereas in this match, Jasprit Bumrah only gave up 15 runs and took 3 of the most important wickets of any bowler in T20 World Cup history.

Right from his first over, Jasprit Bumrah displayed elite class and cricketing intelligence. Bumrah bowled outside off, tempting Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock to play cover drives. Though he made a slight mistake by bowling a full toss, which de Kock hit with confidence, Bumrah soon corrected himself.
He changed the angle of his approach by bowling from wide of the crease and shortening his length to get the ball to move inwards. It was a masterstroke. De Kock was caught between two thoughts – whether to go forward or backward as the ball slipped in and smashed into the stumps.
When Jasprit Bumrah bowled Ryan Rickelton this time, he was fooled by one of his off-cutters because it was so well hidden by the bowler. Rickelton attempted to push to leg but actually chipped with ease to Shivam Dube on the mid-off boundary due to Bumrah using his great bowling skill and his control as a bowler. All of these things and more provide Bumrah with all the tools required to be an exceptional bowler.
Jasprit Bumrah Dominates the Death Overs
While his new-ball performance had already set the tone, Jasprit Bumrah’s death-overs bowling was the final nail in the coffin for South Africa’s momentum.
Returning to the attack in the 17th over, he brought out all his tricks – yorkers, slower balls, bouncers, and slower bouncers that deceived the batsmen. Batters such as Tristan Stubbs and Marco Jansen found it difficult to pick him, scoring only five runs off six balls. While other bowlers, including Varun Chakaravarthy, were leaking runs, Jasprit Bumrah continued to apply the pressure.
With a perfect yorker in the 19th over, Corbin Bosch found himself returning the ball to Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah then took an incredible one-handed catch off Corbin Bosch’s return, marking another wicket for Bumrah. At the end of this spell, Jasprit Bumrah had a phenomenal bowling performance of 4-0-15-3, allowing only three runs in the last over.
With this effort, Jasprit Bumrah has claimed this honor for himself; he now leads all players in T20 World Cup history with the most wickets as an Indian bowler.
Most Wickets Taken By Indian Players In T20 World Cups:
33 – Jasprit Bumrah (22 Innings)

32 – Ravichandran Ashwin (24 Innings)
29 – Hardik Pandya (26 Innings)
22 – Ravindra Jadeja (29 Innings)
Jasprit Bumrah’s ascension to the top of the list in T20 World Cup total wicket-taking during the 200/22 tournament marks him as not only a consistent performer but also a match-winner on an international level in very few number of total innings bowled.
