The first Test between India and South Africa in Kolkata has already delivered drama, not just with the ball but also on the stump mic. Jasprit Bumrah found himself in the spotlight after a DRS conversation with Rishabh Pant about an LBW call against Temba Bavuma went viral.

Jasprit Bumrah Mocks Temba Bavuma for Being Short

During the discussion, Jasprit Bumrah appeared to bring up Bavuma’s height while deciding whether they should review. Pant wasn’t convinced and eventually advised against the DRS, which ended up being the right decision. Replays confirmed the ball would have gone over the stumps.

Bauna bhi toh hae ye (he is a dwarf),” Jasprit Bumrah was heard saying. Then Pant pointed to where the ball had hit Bavuma and said, “bauna hae but laga ya pe hae (he is a dwarf but the ball hit him here).”

As the debate continued, captain Shubman Gill chose not to review after both Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja weighed in.

Rishabh: “Kitne upar laga hai?”
Bumrah: “Bauna bhi toh hai ye”
Jadeja: “Height ka lagra hai?”
Bumrah: “Bauna hai ye behenchod”

The stump mic picked up everything, and naturally, the clips spread quickly online. Whether Jasprit Bumrah was genuinely mocking Bavuma or simply using height as part of the LBW assessment remains unclear, but his words definitely caught attention.

Replays later showed the delivery would have gone comfortably over the leg stump. Jasprit Bumrah wrapped up his opening spell with impressive figures: seven overs, two wickets for nine runs, and four maidens.

Jasprit Bumrah Leads India’s Attack Against South Africa

Bavuma walked in after Ryan Rickelton’s dismissal, which ended a solid 57-run opening stand. Jasprit Bumrah kept the pressure on, removing Aiden Markram before lunch and then striking again in the afternoon session to dismiss Tony de Zorzi. By the time South Africa reached 120, half their side was already back in the pavilion. Kuldeep Yadav chipped in by taking the wickets of Wiaan Mulder and Bavuma.

India’s XI for the Kolkata Test

This Test also marks Rishabh Pant’s return to international cricket after his long injury break. Interestingly, India fielded three wicketkeepers in the playing XI, with Dhruv Jurel included as a specialist batter and KL Rahul also in the lineup.

The bowling attack featured two pacers, Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, along with a spin-heavy setup. Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja were picked as spin-bowling all-rounders, while Kuldeep Yadav played as the specialist spinner.
