Jasprit Bumrah Disagrees With Virat Kohli On Test vs IPL debate: Virat Kohli finally won the IPL trophy with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on June 3 after 17 years. But even in that joyful moment, he said Test cricket still means much more to him, calling it five levels above IPL.

Virat Kohli’s IPL Triumph and Test Cricket Remark

Now, ahead of India’s five-Test series against England, Jasprit Bumrah has responded. The star fast bowler gave a clear and honest take on what Kohli’s words mean, especially for today’s fast bowlers.

Bumrah agreed with Kohli but said every cricketer’s path is different. He pointed out that Test cricket is tough on fast bowlers, and many choose formats based on fitness and family needs. While it earns great respect, not everyone can sustain it.

Jasprit Bumrah Responds: Every Cricketer Has a Unique Path

Speaking to Dinesh Karthik on Star Sports, “It is up to the individual. They have one career, and bowlers don’t hide behind a bat. A lot of strain is put on the body. You have a family to take care of and earn money. If sometimes their bodies don’t allow them to play red-ball cricket and they still want to contribute, it is better to be smarter.”

Jasprit Bumrah agreed with Virat Kohli but said every cricketer’s path is different. He pointed out that Test cricket is tough on fast bowlers, and many choose formats based on fitness and family needs. While it earns great respect, not everyone can sustain it.

“Everybody is different. I grew up watching Test cricket, which is the pinnacle for me. I judge myself based on performances in the longest format. The current generation is different. T20 cricket is there, and you have got different leagues.”

“The mindset and thought process have changed. You can’t judge fast bowlers. Test cricket is the purest format, but everybody is different.”

Jasprit’s Message to the Next Generation of Cricketers

Bumrah urged young players to value Test cricket, saying real respect comes from doing well in the toughest format. But he also admitted that today’s game offers many options like T20, ODIs, and T10 leagues, and players often choose what suits their fitness and finances best.

He concluded by saying, “Like Virat Kohli said, you will earn respect by competing in this format. I will encourage young cricketers to play Test cricket and earn respect. If you want respect across the globe, red-ball cricket should be your motivation. If you like fast cricket, T20 and ODI cricket are the way forward.”
